Philosophy/Mission: To foster an environment of respect, responsibility and compassion for all animals through education, legislation and leadership. To care for the homeless, to defend the abused and to fight with unrelenting diligence for recognition of the integrity of all animals.
Claim to Fame/Signature Product or Service: Established in 1868, OHS is the largest and oldest humane society in the Pacific Northwest. We are not affiliated with any other humane society and we rely entirely on private donations for everything we do. OHS found homes for 11,225 pets last year, investigated over 1,100 animal cruelty complaints, and brought humane education programs to over 16,000 Oregon youths.
Community Involvement, Special Notes: The Oregon Humane Society is a founding partner in ASAP (Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland). In just 5 years, ASAP reduced euthanasia in our community by 55 percent; not a single healthy cat or dog euthanized in the past two years!
