Pet obesity experts “alarmed” at recent statistics

New research from the Association of Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP) states that more than half of dogs and cats in the US are now classified as either overweight or obese. The study commissioned by APOP involved veterinarians throughout the US who contributed pet assessments to the research.  One result found that the “vast majority of owners of overweight or obese dogs didn’t even realize their pet had a weight issue.”  Veterinarians discovered that 93 percent of owners of overweight or obese dogs and 88 percent of cat owners didn’t see their pet’s excess weight as an issue.
