Pet Loss Support Meeting

  • DoveLewis Business Office, Albers Mill Bldg (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The loss of a pet can be one of the most devastating experiences that an individual or family has to face. For many, this is a loss not only of a pet, but of a best friend. DoveLewis realizes that, in our society, each of us is expected to minimize our sorrow for our lost pet. However, feelings linger long after the loss, because our pets shared our lives, dreams, homes, and affections. And because they touched our lives so deeply, they are deserving of our grief.

Grieving for a beloved pet is a very natural, normal, and personal process. The manner and intensity of our reactions to this loss will be different for each person. Our reactions will depend on the circumstances surrounding the death, our depth of attachment to the pet, our personal experiences with grief, and our state of mind when the loss occurs.

There are many resources at DoveLewis to help you grieve the loss of a pet. Learn more about Memorial Art Therapy and Grief Support.

Find additional resources to take home such as Pet Remembrance Journals, Engraved Bricks, and Sympathy Cards to help you memorialize the loss of a pet.

Grief and Loss Support Group (Eugene)

A safe place for your grief when you’re going through a significant life change or loss.

– the death of someone you’re close to (human or pet)
– a major shift in your ability to care for yourself
– loss of a career or much-loved job
– the end of an important relationship
– any change that means a change of identity or purpose

Although our losses are different, we each grieve the hole in our life when it happens. The group’s focus is on the experience of bereavement and grief – the normal human response to loss and change.

  • Be with people who understand your responses and concerns.

  • Offer and receive support.

  • Learn from each other’s experiences and from my years of providing grief support.

This facilitated peer support group meets nearly every week at this time. Office is centrally located for Eugene/Springfield and for Lane county.

Before your *first* group meeting, call for a short chat to make certain the group is a good fit for your situation: (541) 255-7116.
