2nd Spot Walk Added! Animal House Toga Party and Adoption

On Saturday, July 31, Multnomah County Animal Services hosts its 3rd annual Animal House Adoption Party — aka Toga Party — at the MCAS Shelter in Troutdale. The all-day party features food, music, vendors, and lots of adoptables.

The Toga Party was conceived in response to “kitten season,” when each year shelters spike dramatically through summer. MCAS has roughly 80 spaces for cats and often the shelter receives upwards of 25 cats per day during summer. As an “open admission” shelter, MCAS is required by law to accept any stray in Multnomah County, whether or not there is room. The Toga Party’s mission is to raise public awareness and find homes for as many animals as possible, freeing up space for more cats in need.

In previous years, adoptions during the Toga Party have quadrupled, from six on an average Friday to nearly 30 during the event. The event runs 11am-midnight, with adoptions taking place throughout. Staff and volunteers provide individual help to prospective pet parents as needed.
