Meet Jeff Evans
Dignified Pet Services presents 'People in the Neighborhood'
Surrounded by animals all his life, including pigs, bunnies and goats, San Francisco transplant Jeff Evans has a deep love for all animals.
Growing up with rescued dogs and cats was a given, so his desire to care for injured and disabled dogs is no surprise to those who know him. Funny, outgoing, lighthearted, positive, and occasionally irreverent, this larger-than-life man with a heart of gold believes in living life the way he likes.
Evans and his husband, Michael created the nonprofit, Angels with Misplaced Wings, in 2010 after moving from San Francisco to live with Jeff’s mom in Vancouver. One special-needs dog grew into a business or animal sanctuary, where disabled and senior dogs roam freely throughout the house and property.
Focusing on quality of life, they take in rescues who need a home and special care. With 12 dogs to love and care for, blind, deaf and paralyzed, Jeff is on-call around the clock.
A former life coach, Jeff loves what he does and believes in living in the moment. His perfect day is doing exactly what he currently does. He doesn’t worry about the future; his motto with the dogs is to just keep moving forward, see what’s next.
Best Snack Ever?
“Once a year I give in to a Cinnabon cinnamon roll with extra frosting! After I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a few years ago I dramatically changed my eating habits and I’m proud to say I am no longer diabetic!”
Morning person or night owl?
“Both, as I’m up all night tending to the dogs’ needs. I get up as early as 4 or 5am, and take a 2-hour nap every day then go to bed late, usually after 11. I have an odd sleeping schedule but it works for me.”
His power?
“I guess my ability to be committed and connect with people and animals. My passion for bringing never-ending love and patience while helping find solutions to help these animals live the best life they can while they are with us. I want to be inclusive, respond personally to all messages we receive, and always look for the best in everything and everyone … dogs and humans.”
What would people be surprised to know about you?
“I am an ordained minister and was going to start my own church. I studied musical theatre and considered a career in it. I rarely cry unless I’m watching a sad movie or reading a sad book … and I was arrested. ONCE,” he laughs.
The shoe that is so you?
“My bright lime neon green tennis shoes! Comfortable, fun, bright, and a little obnoxious, they definitely get people’s attention. Totally like me.”
